As Curriculum and Evaluation Coordinator, Lauren Sawyer oversees the development of all of MC2's math circle lessons. Creative with a special ability to anticipate how children will respond to an activity, she's a vital and valued member of our community. We're very happy to announce that Lauren was selected as the winner of the 2025 Rosenthal Prize for Innovation and Inspiration in Math Teaching!
The prize is awarded annually to the person who creates an outstanding hands on, engaging math lessons for middle school children. These activities are archived at the Museum of Math's website and shared widely. Lauren's plan will be shared on the website soon.
Lauren's winning lesson is called, "Bubble Tiles," and was inspired by a donation Math Happens made to MC2--every 2024 QED student received a set of bubble tiles to explore (and these tiles were featured on last year's QED shirt). Lauren started exploring the properties of bubble tiles which led to an activity that will now be shared with teachers across the country.
Congratulations Lauren!
