Families come join Math Circles Chicago for a fun, hands on, energizing math festival on Saturday, May 16th. The festival will be held at Payton High School at 1034 N. Wells in Old Town on Saturday, May 16th from 1:30PM-3:00PM. The festival is open to K to 8th graders and their families (all children must have at least one parent or guardian attend).

Our Summer Camp at Austin will serve Rising 6th to 12th grade students in 4 classrooms. The camp is a collaboration between Project Exigent and Math Circles of Chicago.

Our Summer Camp at Payton meets half day. New! For the first time we'll be offering a Rising 5th grade program, to go along with Rising 6th, RIsing 7th, and Rising 8th/9th!

Our Summer Camp at Back of the Yards meets half day, with an option to attend an after care program that continues in the afternoon. New! For the first time we'll be offering a Rising 5th grade program, to go along with Rising 6th, RIsing 7th, and Rising 8th/9th!

This is a camp that meets mid-afternoon Monday to Friday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Rising 6th to 9th graders.

Our Summer Camp at Juarez consists of two one-week programs. Students can sign up for the 1st week, the 2nd week, or both weeks. These programs are for rising 10th to 12th grade students.

Week 1, 7/20-7/24: Statistics & Data Science with Kieran Flahive and Rina Foygel Barber

Students will explore essential questions of statistics and data science with hands-on examples from sports, college admissions, astronomy, and more!

Week 2, 7/27-7/31: Category Theory with Dr. Eugenia Cheng

Students will explore "the mathematics of mathematics" and its connections to both pure mathematics such as geometry, as well as to more literal applications, such as how to make custard

Students who qualify for a participation stipend can earn $100-$150 per week of the course they attend.

Math Circles of Chicago is seeking assistants for our summer camps at Walter Payton College Prep (Old Town) and Back of the Yards College Prep HS. Applicants to Payton and BOYCP will receive training to serve as assistants. BOYCP students will - on a rotating basis - be asked to help with aftercare programming during camp between 12pm and 3pm.

To meet the total number of required hours through Chicago Youth Works (formerly One Summer Chicago) applicants may also need to complete some working hours following the end of camp during July 20-31.

If you are interested in working as a teaching assistant in one of these locations, please complete the following application. We will collect demographic information only for grant applications and recording. You will also complete a few short answer questions, and nominate a teacher from your high school (or from a previous math circle) who can recommend you as an assistant. I will also follow up with a brief phone call or zoom call if you are selected as a finalist.

Payment will be managed by time tracking of hours through Chicago Youth Works (formerly One Summer Chicago) in partnership with the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council.

For students who qualify for participation stipends, attending 5 of 7 winter sessions will earn a $100 incentive. For students who have already earned some participation points, the base stipend increases to $250 for reaching ten points by the end of the academic year.

QED: MC2's Math Symposium

A citywide showcase where students present original math and computer science projects, explore ideas with mentors, and share their discoveries with the community.

QED (short for quod erat demonstrandum) is Math Circles of Chicago’s annual math symposium. It is a one-of-a-kind event where students present math and computer science projects they’ve created themselves. From playful puzzles to real-world applications and pure math research, QED empowers young people to think deeply, work creatively, and share their discoveries.

Each December, more than 100 students present their work to judges including math professors, graduate students, and educators. Participants get the chance to earn recognition, win prizes, qualify for the City STEM Fair, and connect with mentors who can guide their future studies.

The MC2 Scholars are graduating high school seniors who will receive $2,000 scholarships towards their postsecondary studies in a STEM field. These grantees represent the most motivated, involved, and dedicated among our learners. They embody our mission to develop their mathematical power and build a sense of belonging in advanced math spaces as they set forth on their own mathematical pathway.
